The Engine Behind EHS

Welcome to the first blog spot for Engineering and Hydraulic Services. I am Russell Gill the owner of Engineering & Hydraulic Services (Pty) Ltd. We are a company whose passion it is to supply quality sales and service in both hydraulics and pneumatics or as we like to refer to it “Fluid Power”
Since graduating as a Mechanical Engineer from the University of Cape Town in 1983 I have spent every single day of my working life, involved in this wonderfully interesting world of fluid power engineering. I find the engineering side of fluid power so interesting that in 2005, after working for an employer for 22 years and finding myself in the position as one of the company directors and responsible for overseeing   approximately 100 employees I suddenly realized that this “success” was not for me. I had completed my training as a Mechanical Engineer and engineering is what I wanted to do. I rectified the situation by resigning from my position at the company and purchasing a small fluid power engineering company in a small town 80km outside of the city centre of Johannesburg.  I was now the hands on owner of a fluid power business called Engineering & Hydraulic Services and still am today.
One of the pleasures of running your own business is that you get to build a company based on your own beliefs of how a fluid power business should operate. I am a firm believer that our business exists to assist our clients to rid themselves of any fluid power problems they may be encountering. We do this by providing advice, assisting with troubleshooting and maintenance issues and selling the correct replacement parts when required. If we stick to this philosophy we will eventually gain the loyalty of our clientele and they will form a long term relationship with Engineering & Hydraulic Services.
Part of our business is providing fluid power training. If we educate fluid power users about their systems, components they use and how to maintain and look after them we are satisfying one leg of our company mission.
The purpose of introducing this blog is for EHS to use another communication medium to provide fluid power advice and information. In future blogs we will relate some of the interesting troubleshooting faults that I have encountered in my time. We would also like to develop a feedback system where our customers and training clients can relate their problems and stories back to us.
I look forward to this new step we are taking forward and I am very keen to see what results from it.
Yours in Fluid Power
Russell Gill
